Just recently my brother and his girlfriend Robin came to visit from Denver. We miss them so much, but they are loving Denver and have no plans to move back to atlanta. We got together in the Athen's quad and had a fun day with the kids. Here are a few pictures of my sweet little brother and his girlfriend.

Robin is an awesome interior designer and just won several awards for her designs! Brooks is a mechanical engineer and is also doing his share of award winning lately for his enviromental friendly and LEED certified energy engineering. Can you tell I am a little bit proud and happy for them:)

My littlest baby boy is three! He is out of diapers, talking, and sleeping in a big boy bed! How did he grow up so fast? I am realizing how fast they change and grow right before your eyes. It just is a reminder to me how important it is to capture to first newborn moments because they do change so quickly! I was thrilled when Heather contacted me about photographing her family! She has HORSES!! Oh My! How do I love horses? I cannot even begin to describe the huge smile a horse brings to my face and heart. These creatures are truly a gift from the Lord. I miss mine so much! Heather's family lives on a quaint and beautiful 10 acres nestled in the heart of Dacula. You would never know it is there! I mean really, you could totally pass their home everyday and never notice it. But, it is really neat. Complete with a little red barn. I can see how they fell in love with the place:)

Heather and Brandon have 3 beautiful children. They were so good braving the cold we had last week. Heather is also a writer. She writes for several magazines in addition to raising 3 little munchkins! Isn't she beautiful?!? And, just had a baby 6 months ago! So I am going to share quite a few horsey images:) Enjoy!

Wow! This bride is so beautiful, not to mention her beautiful girls. We had such a great time and the weather was beautiful. I love the fall colors and the vibrant flowers she choose. They arrived in a limo and were headed to the Sundial for dinner after photos. Can't you tell how much they are in love?

After the session, I looked in my wallet and I only had $2.20. Oh no! It is going to be at least $3.00 to get out of the parking deck. "Please Lord, just let it be $2.20!" I am thinking of how I can get .80 cents. So I pull up to the window and hand the lady my ticket wondering if she will let me out. THen she says " hang on, your ticket isn't working" " its not you." She tries the ticket at least 3 times. Finally, she says " go ahead, its not working" What?! " Okay God, you are amazing!" I just needed the very real reminder that God hears our prayers and answers!
How great is that?!

Jaelyn is so amazingly adorable! She has the sweetest giggle and she loved the camera! Jaelyn is also about to be a big sister. Although, you really cant tell that her Momma is pregnant! ( not fair:))! I loved meeting this sweet family. Jaelyn absolutely had the best green and black dress to go with my vintage green chair! How great is that? I think her Momma may have had something to do with that. Here are a couple from our session together! I can't wait to post more.

I was so excited to have a little boy in the studio! Not that I don't LOVE little girls (I do!) but, I had a few little boy ideas that were fun to try. I will have to post the tie one soon:) So cute! Cole is just 6 months old and sitting already! He was cuddly and adorable. He loved his Grandma. Whenever he heard her voice he looked up and gave a smile. What is really neat is that over the past year we have been praying for Cole's Grandma's health. And, when I met her on Sunday I would have never know she had been sick! I almost mentioned it but then I thought "this can't be her?" Joyce we are so thankful you are in remission! God is so good! He hears our prayers. Hope these pictures bring a smile to your face as they do mine! More to come.

Sweet little Avi just turned one! She has the most beautiful eyes! They are literally the most warm brown I have ever seen! Her eyes just make me melt! She was such a sweetheart and I got the best hugs from her! Serious baby fever after meeting her:) You can tell that her mom and dad love her so much. This little girl is just melting my heart! She is so cute and has the most beautiful momma! Do not you just love her red hair?!? I always wanted red hair when I was little. I know right? Can you picture me with red hair? Well, It is the perfect color for Georgia and I love it! I could not have had a better morning with these two girls. It was the perfect sunrise session. I had a great early sunrise session with this adorable 2 year old and her Dad! She was so cute. She also brought her doggie. He is a poodle with a rockin' haircut, a mohawk! We started off our session downtown atlanta and ended up at one of thier favorite parks to play. We even stopped for coffee along the way at a great little coffee shop. Thanks for the coffee John! You can tell by all the smiles that this little girl adores her father! She giggled and played movie theater with him and gave us popcorn and money! She even walked like a duck after she fed the ducks! Definitely had her Daddy and I rolling in laughter! I hope you enjoy the sneak peek:) More to come.

He was reading from the book of Corinthians "and a husband shall not divorce his wife." These are the words that drifted to me as I was taking this picture and I thought "this family is so beautiful" not because of their outer beauty (even though they are!) but because they love the Lord. This is what family is about. These are the moments to remember. The children are gathered around, the bible is open, and there is joy! This is why I do what I do. So maybe I can give families images that capture their children's hearts because I think children can show us "how wide and long and deep is the love of Christ" with their sweet smiles and unaffected love they glorify our Father.

Our Beach Trip 2011 {cumming children's photography}

We had such a great time at the beach this year! The weather was so fabulous! I highly recommend the beach in September and October. The air is so comfortable and the ocean is still warm. The water was clear. No seaweed, we saw a few jellyfish, simply because of the storm the previous weekend.

The kids loved the boogie board and the waves this year. The only thing they did not love was the photo session Mommy wanted. But, they did like going in fully clothed!! Can't beat that, right?

Another reason the consider Homeschooling;) Cheaper beach trips and nicer weather!

Whew! I am a tired momma today! It was so beautiful outside we played at the park, went to the library, and played hopscotch on the driveway. We had a blast but it wore me out! Hopefully the children will sleep well. The weather makes me want to bake pumpkin muffins and apple pie.. YUM!

Jonah had such a great time looking in all the newspaper stands on our trip:) He looked in each one and got a paper out! Free adds. Who knew they could be so much fun?

On another note, we are back to school.. homeschooling of course and are in full swing! How did summer go so quickly?

With my oldest in 3rd, son in 2nd, and little one in "pre-k"/ toddler school it is really busy around here:) I do love it though and thank the Lord for my babies!

Today, lemonade was spilled, diapers were changed, messes were made, but we made it through! Whew! Some days seem like more messes are made that others! Especially, when it is sticky lemonade (not to mention pricey organic and stevia sweetened lemonade:)). LOL!

Today, was the first official day we were NOT back at school! LOL! We homeschool so we are always at home! I love every minute of it( most days) and am so glad I get to spend these precious years with my children. God is so good! He is providing for us in so many ways and His blessings are bountiful! He gives me grace to be a momma each day and each day I need Him and seek Him to parent my three babies!

Here are a few snaps I dragged them out for! They are too fond of the camera these days! But, I hope they will treasure the photos of them in years to come.

What happens after the pictures are taken?( cumming newborn photographer)

Many people might be surprised by how much work goes into each session – people might have thought that it only takes an hour of taking pictures and that that is it. Nope! It takes quite a bit longer than an hour. :)

When you hire me you are really paying for more that just 1-2 hours of my time you are actually hiring me for 12-15 hours. Most of the work I do takes place after the session "developing" and fine tuning your images.

So, I wanted to showcase a cute, cute image I captured recently to show you how I take the image that comes out of my camera and process it so that the client gets a “perfectly processed image.

Why do I even need to process with Photoshop in the first place?

Well, one reason is that I shoot in RAW mode – the final image quality is higher. Raw images come out of camera looking- dull and grey – it needs processing before it can be turned into a jpeg that is prinable. Think "Digital Negative". Remember how film negatives have to be developed? Well, raw images are negatives that have to be "developed" too. This takes place in the digital darkroom.

Here is some of the steps:

BEFORE WE MEET:

1. Set up with client the day/time of the shoot, discuss with client location options, wardrobe styling

2. Check gear (camera body, lenses, battery, memory cards)

3. Clean gear (lenses, especially)

SHOOTING TIME:

4. Travel time to location (usually about 30-40 minutes roundtrip)

5. time spent with family/children newborn (1.5 – 2 hours for a family session and up to 4 hours for a newborn session)

AFTER THE SESSION:

6. download images from my camera into lightroom

7. back-up images

8. proofing images and selecting the 20-25 best images from approximately 350 images

9. post processing best images to present to client

10. converting the “Straight Out of the Camera” images from RAW to jpgs to present to client

11. uploading images to online gallery

12. contacting client with information on how to view images and how to order images for their portrait collection

13. creating a blog entry for the photo session

14. Discussing with client specifics about their order (images they’ve selected, products they are ordering, prints they are ordering)

15. placing print and product orders

16. packaging orders and sending them off to the client!

ARE YOU STILL THERE?! WHEW! That is a lot of steps! I would say that I spend about 12-15 hours from start to finish.

You are ready to see the picture right?

Here is the BEFORE and AFTER shot:

You probably want to know what i did right?

Remember RAW images are grey, lifeless and need processing.

Look at the histogram and you can see it is a well exposed image. Jpegs have color saturation and sharpening applied. Raw images don't so the photographer needs to add this, but it allows for more control.

First, i corrected white balance. This image was taken in "cloudy" conditions resulting in cool(blue) skin tones. Then I added contrast using a curves layer and brightened skin tones. I boosted the saturation of colors and darkened the background to make her really stand out. I brightened her eyes and diminished under eye circles. All the time making sure not to loose detail in the whites of her dress- aka blown highlights.

How long does post-processing take for one image? It depends on the image. Sometimes 10 minutes per image, sometimes 20-30 minutes – depending on how many Photoshop tricks I use.

And remember, I did all of this because RAW images come out of the camera looking a bit grey until they are processed. The client receives a high-quality image that will print out beautifully at a professional lab – one that knows how to handle professional processing.

This morning started out in a rush for me because my babysitter canceled! EEK! Well, thankfully my children were so good while I was setting up and really did so well until Nana arrived to take over. Fortunately, the parents of this sweet newborn were very understanding!

Baby Piper was 8 days old and had given her parents a tough night. They were so tired. I know all of you with newborns can relate. I remember those nights all to well. Piper is such a beautiful little baby. She loved to sleep with this huge open mouth! Adorable! And, she made those cute little baby grunts that just remind me so much of a baby goat!LOL! Mine all did that,too!

God is so good! Each of these tiny newborns just reminds me of His goodness and love for us. I am always in awe of these tiny miracles.

Wall displays { suwanee newborn photographer}

So when you are choosing displays for your walls. I suggest going BIG! Tiny prints just don't do much for your wall space and don't make a statement or look pleasing visually. Most clients order and 8x 10 or 5x7. These are great sizes but, not for the wall. Take a look at the examples below and see what you think. The first example is a display I put together for a recent newborn who was here for a session. Isn't she cute? No small prints here! Also, when you order your mounted prints or canvases from me you can be sure the colors and print quality will be exceptional. Images are printed on professional paper from a pro lab.

This family was so cute! The oldest child was their daughter and it so reminds me of my children. Oldest girl with 3 little brothers. Well, good thing because this little girl is going to need her 3 brother's to keep the boys away because she is so beautiful. Their mom and I chatted about clothes and location a couple days before the session. When I mentioned we would be sitting on the ground and being "playful". She told me that her husband was a little " stiff". I thought she meant the he couldn't move really well physically! LOL!! She meant he was a strict disciplinarian with the children. I was expecting a guy who would really would be hard to coax into "playing" and having fun. Well, he was GREAT! He picked up his tiny wife and swung her around and didn't mind at all when I asked his three boys to tackle him!

Leslie and Todd Married { suwanee wedding photographer}

Leslie and Todd are obviously so in love and it is evident in the way Todd smiles at Leslie. I know that they will cherish each other. Beneath clouds of gray, truly a blessing from the Lord, we headed out on the grounds around the church. At one point I ask Leslie to look at her husband, she said "whoa" with big eyes. Husband and wife. Married. That's the way it should be for these two.

They really wanted some outdoor images around the grounds of the church. The church is the oldest in Georgia and was full of charm.

I also was blessed to get to meet another photographer that I had only know through a photography board. Shari, the bride's sister. Shari was also Leslie's bridesmaid. Shari has such a sweet spirit and it was great that she was totally comfortable in front of the camera (or at least she seemed to be:))!

This little girl slept like a dream! The general consensus in the photography community is the earlier the better for newborns, for example the first 2 weeks of life. And generally I find that to be true, but lately I have had a few older newborns that slept amazing! Go figure! Maybe it is all that good momma milk that is in by a few weeks. Of course, the parents did say to come by there house after 10pm and it would be a different story!!!! So enjoy this first images of sweet Emma!

I have a terrible head cold.. ugg! No fun! Especially with 3 kids and a sick husband too. Why do we all have to be sick at the same time? Well, I have to count my blessings I am usually the one to avoid a cold or other sickness when the rest of my family catches something. I think God just knows a momma must be on duty full time, all the time. I truly don't have time to be sick! I will be downing my vitamins and trying to get a little extra rest here and there.

Little baby Harrison is the fourth boy in this sweet family. Leslie and Todd Engaged!{atlanta wedding photographer}

Leslie contacted me several months ago to photographer her wedding. She and Todd are such a neat couple. They met at Olive Garden for their first date and talked for 4 hours! And, he asked her for the second date right then! Isn't that great?!?

Well, we had a really fun time during this session. Leslie and Todd brought a quilt that they often sat on while they were dating and just talked. So glad we got to include it in their session.

So, a really strange quirk that I have is I often call people a totally unrelated name! It plagues me! My whole life... IF you look like a Scott to me ( even though you are a Todd) I call you Scott! LOL! And Todd is not the only one I have done this too! Sorry Scott.... ummm ... I mean Todd! Glad you guys have a sense of humor about it:)

Yesterday, I had the privilege to capture my sweet friend's wedding. Shelby's colors were hot pink and orange. LOVE! What an awesome spring color combination. When I walked in the whole room smelled like flowers! It was a great smell and later I found out that it was not only from the flowers but a really great candle. I love the way Jon and Shelby were constantly smiling and you could just feel there love for each other. I know God is going to do wonderful things in their lives and marriage! Film vs. Digital (dacula family photographer)

Soooo, have you heard of anyone shooting film lately? Well, I have always loved film. Especially black and white film. Not the film you shoot color and the tell them at the lab " I would like this in black and white, please" but, REAL black and white film. Digital is still not quite there yet. I know, I know, I do LOVE digital and the so many things it has to offer, but there is still an ART to film that will not die. One of the reasons is because you can capture a greater range of lightness and darkness on film than digital. And that is what gives takes and image from a picture to a piece of art. It is all about the light and the quality of the light. Here is a great link to film is not dead.
It is a great read. SO, in the near future I may be bringing my film camera as well as my digital camera to sessions. Yeah! Really, Really fun:)

I am so glad I got to meet this beautiful mom to be and her Husband this weekend. They are such a fun couple and are expecting their first baby in about a month. I was also glad the weather held for us. It had been storming most of the weekend but we were able to get some outside shots. Doesn't she have the most perfect belly? I can't wait to meet their baby! Ashley, has already been shopping on etsy for their baby. My favorite place to shop too! She has picked out some amazingly cute items. I may have to add these to my collection too. Last week the sweetest little girl came over for a fun "smash the cake" session! This was so much fun. I really don't think she knew what to make of the bright pink cupcake we gave her. I could just see her thinking "Really? This is all mine. The whole thing?" After, we headed to a fun location for outdoor images. Love the dress and bow she had on. It suited her perfectly. Happy Birthday Riley!

This is my absolute favorite from the day!
Don't you just love the way she has her arms up! Images like these are what I love so much more than a typical " shoot and print" mall studio! Custom photography is different from the beginning to the end. I am thinking of doing a before and after post just to show what all goes into creating these images. Once the images are taken alot goes on behind the "camera":) Lots of time and attention to detail go into each and every image.

The beautiful twins are here! I am so excited to share their pictures with you. One girl and one boy! How blessed are these parents?!? Every time I get the amazing opportunity to photography a newborn baby I realize what an amazing gift God has placed in the new parents hands. The child is a blessing and a gift, sweet and pure. I love holding the tiny baby in my arms and getting to capture these moments for new parents. They grow sooo fast and change so quickly. If there was every a time to capture in photographs it is definitely a newborn.

Well, This beautiful soon to be Momma and her husband came to visit me this past weekend and she is expecting TWINS! I am super excited for her! These are her first 2 babies and it is really hard to believe she is having two. She is really tiny and has absolutely the cutest belly!

This is the BIG wedding i traveled to South Carolina to photograph. Isn't Lauren the prettiest bride? She seemed relaxed and calm the whole day! But even if there were some nerves this family knows how to have a great time! I love it when the whole day is about celebrating the love between the bride and groom. At the end of the night the groomsmen even started throwing the Bride and Groom into the air I can't wait to post that picture:) Lauren is even more special to me because she is my cousin and it is amazing that she is grown and married now. Alexandra was so precious and sweet. This baby's mother had some beautiful furs we were able to use during the session. She ended up peeing on one and I really hope it comes clean!:) This baby could not be more sweet and I absolutely love to cuddle and photograph these babies! I really love my job! Bride to Be {south carolina wedding photographer}

So I have been waiting to post these until after the wedding so as to keep the dress a big surprise for the groom. Well, we had such a great time taking these and it is a great way to ensure you have plenty of photos of yourself in your dress. The actually wedding day is very busy so if you want pictures like these a seperate bridal session is a must!

Lauren is such a stunning bride and she has been dating her fiance for 7 years! They are the cutest couple. He does things for her like bringing her coffee in the morning. Now, that is the way to a girls heart:) Lauren and Jake met on a missions trip and ran track together in high school. During the bridal session Lauren's 2 brothers came along to help out and their muscles came in handy carrying our chair around!

Robin and her daughter Madison traveled all the way from south Georgia for a session with me. We had a blast during this session and Madison totally worked the camera! What a delight it was to have a little girl who enjoyed being photographed:) I hope in 2 years my daughter will love to be photographed too! I have to pull out the big bribes for her.

These girls were soo cute! My girl did not want to have her picture taken yet again by her Mama! Photographer's child syndrome as it is called in the photography world! Fall is in the air! I love the weather in Atlanta right now. It is starting to get cool and crisp in the air. Yesterday, we took the children to Elijah to the apple orchard. This was our first time apple picking and we loved it! It was just beautiful and the mountains were gorgeous! We picked Winesap apples and they are yummy. When the kids tired of picking apples I suggested a game of hide and seek. Well, I expected them to hide behind the trees BUT, like any adventurous child they decided to hide IN the trees! My oh my! It was super sweet and fun to see their laughter and smiles when I could not find them:) We had so much fun and made a great memory. Each day is a gift from God and I am so thankful that HE has bless us with these babies!

So, the first picture I have to post is one of this couple's beautiful and very imaginative little girl. We hunted for leprechons and 4 leaf clovers during our session. And her mom actually had one for her in her car. Now that is a good mom!
Yeva is from Russia and I got to hear her speak a little bit of Russian to her daughter. I have always loved foriegn languages.

This is Izabella and she is soon to be a big sister. I can't wait to meet the new baby when she arrives.

I just went to South Carolina this past weekend to shoot a bridal session. I am dying to share but I have to wait untill after the wedding. The dress under wraps until the big day. We had soooo much fun. We went to 4 different locations and got some amazing photos. I love it when a bride is willing to wear the dress and have a little fun in order to capture some amazing photos. Okay, okay, you will just have to wait another 4 weeks and I will have a huge blog post to share:)!

But since I can't post without a picture here is another fun, fun, family I got the chance to shoot lately. There was another kind of shooting going on during our session. Not the kind with a camera!!! Apparently, September 4th is the opening season for dove and quail hunting and there were hunters shooting withing several hundred feet of a public park! We moved to a different area very quickly! Nevertheless, we had a great time! Are not they a beautiful family? They totally rocked this shot!

I have had quite a few one year old girls lately! It is so special when I have photographed their baby pictures and then get to see them again when they turn one. The changes during the first year are so rapid it seems as if they change daily! Mollie is quite the curious little girl and looked adorable in her new tutu. She also got to have her first smarties during the photo session:) I think she liked them:)Her beautiful mama is planning a Dr. Seuse birthday for her and it sounds like it is going to be a great party, complete with red and blue cupcakes. This sweet baby girl is one year old! My how time flies! It seems like yesterday that I took her precious newborn photos. She has changed so much. She was born with lots of black hair and now it has turned a georgeous red. Amazing isn't it what God creates and how each baby is a miracle! She was a trooper in the blazing heat to let us take her out and dress her up for birthday pictures. Here is a trip down memory lane and a picture of her as a newborn.

My almost 2 year old is such a sweet little nut! He gives me this big toothy grin every time I break out the camera and says " Cheese"! Which is hilarious because I never say "say cheese". I don't know where he picked it up:) He brings a special joy to our family. He is the baby and makes his older sister and brother laugh all the time! He is determined to do everything they do! To my endless exasperation I am constantly telling him "no, you are not big enough to do that". He just looks up at me innocently. I think he must be thinking "I will show you that I am big enough to do it!" I love his sweet determination and joyful heart! I can't wait to see how Jonah and his older brother and sister will serve God as they grow!

Josie and her family got together for a family reunion. Her beautiful daughters were in from Boston! Aren't they gorgeous! The great grandparents were also there. They were so sweet. The ages ranged from 91 to 1 years old. Thank you all for braving the heat! They also very kindly lent me some of their bug spray! Note to self: remember to bring bug spray to sessions:) These were taken at her beautiful home. Josie has a few acres of land and wonderful blueberry bushes. And a fig tree! Figs are my favorite! Without further ado, this is baby Jackson! He is such a sweet little 6 pounds of joy! His Momma had her maternity images with me recently and came back for a newborn session! I just love when I get to see the momma and then the baby:) She endured 30 hours of induced labor without an epidural! Go Girl! It is also her first baby( usually the hardest).

Katy, I hope you enjoy your preview! Just when you think we are not going to get anything the last 30 minutes or so of a 3 hour session the baby finally says ahhhh, just got to sleep and we get some amazing images!

These two sweet little girls came over to play and have their portraits made last week. Katelyn is my daughter's age and have know each other since they were two. Madelyn just celebrated her 2nd birthday and is walking! A huge milestone for her. Their momma and I have become good friends over the years. We first met in Mom's club. It is so neat to see how our families are growing. Leah is a great real estate lady and also a wedding coordinator. She has her hands full but, is blessed beyond measure:)God has truly been with them over the years and His hand is visible in their lives.
